Music Ownership, Monetisation & Technology
The Factory Music Group is an independent music company based in Athens, Greece.
We work with independent record labels, artists, producers and other music rights owners across music ownership, catalog development, monetisation and technology
.
Our focus is straightforward: help create and own valuable music, develop existing music catalogs, find more ways to monetise them, and use technology to make the music business more efficient.
We work internationally and are particularly interested in partnerships where we can contribute more than a traditional service provider.
We see music as intellectual property and as a long-term asset.
We participate in the creation and ownership of sound recordings and work with partners on new music projects, joint ventures and existing catalogs.
Our involvement varies from project to project. In some cases we may have an ownership interest in the resulting recordings. In others, we work alongside the rights owner to develop and monetise their existing assets.
The important thing is that we have a genuine interest in the long-term value of the music.
A release is not simply a one-off product. A successful recording can generate revenue and find new audiences for years, which is why we think about music beyond its initial release campaign.
Independent labels often have strong artists, great music and valuable catalogs but do not always have access to the resources available to larger music companies.
We work with labels and rights owners to provide additional expertise, infrastructure and commercial capability where it is needed.
This can include:
Every partnership is different.
Sometimes we work on a specific project or catalog. Sometimes we become a longer-term partner to a label or rights owner.
Getting music onto streaming platforms is only the beginning.
We look at the wider commercial opportunities around a recording and its rights.
This can include streaming, YouTube, licensing, sync, neighbouring rights, international markets, digital content and new campaigns for existing recordings.
We also look at the underlying information around a catalog — ownership, metadata, distribution, revenue, streaming performance and audience data.
The objective is to understand what is already happening and identify opportunities that may have been missed.
An older recording can become relevant again. A track can suddenly grow in a new territory. A catalog can develop an audience long after its original release.
Good catalog management means paying attention to these opportunities.
Technology is a major part of The Factory Music Group.
We are particularly interested in technology that solves real problems within music companies.
The music business involves huge amounts of information and repetitive operational work. Labels and rights owners deal with contracts, recordings, metadata, distribution, marketing, analytics, payments, royalties and reporting across multiple systems.
We use and develop technology to make these processes easier.
This can include:
We are not interested in technology for its own sake.
If an existing tool solves the problem, we use it.
If a process can be automated, we automate it.
If different systems need to communicate, we connect them.
And if a problem requires a new solution, we build one.
Technology also gives music companies better ways to understand and reach listeners.
Streaming services, social platforms, YouTube and other digital services generate enormous amounts of audience data.
We are interested in turning that data into something useful.
That means understanding where music is being discovered, which tracks and artists are gaining momentum, which territories are growing and which platforms are driving meaningful audience development.
The goal is not to reduce music to data.
The goal is to give music companies better information so they can make better decisions and connect music with the right audiences.
One of the advantages of The Factory Music Group is that we develop technology from inside the music business.
We encounter the problems ourselves.
We work with music catalogs, distribution data, reporting, marketing, rights information and the day-to-day operation of music projects.
That means our approach to technology is practical.
Some solutions are built for our own operations.
Others may eventually become products or platforms that can be used by labels, artists and other music companies.
We are interested in both.
The Factory Music Group is based in Athens, Greece, but our work is international.
Digital music has made it possible for an independent label or artist in one country to build an audience anywhere in the world.
We work with international partners and look for opportunities across territories, particularly where technology, data and strong local music businesses can create new opportunities.
Athens is our base. The market we operate in is global.
At its core, The Factory Music Group brings together four areas:
Creating and participating in the ownership of valuable music intellectual property.
Managing, developing and finding new opportunities within existing music catalogs.
Looking beyond basic distribution to maximise the commercial potential of music rights.
Using technology to improve music company operations and help connect with audiences.
These areas are closely connected.
The better we understand the music and the rights, the better we can develop the catalog. The better the data and technology, the easier it is to manage the business and identify opportunities.
We prefer long-term partnerships to transactional relationships.
We are interested in working with people who have something valuable — music, rights, audiences, expertise or technology — and finding ways to build more value together.
We do not try to fit every partner into the same model.
We look at the music, the rights, the people involved and the opportunity, and then work out where we can add value.
The Factory Music Group is an independent music company focused on owning, developing and monetising music while using technology to build a more efficient music business.
